Day 1

Everyone arrived the night before (aside from an issue with the rental company needing to create a key to one of the vans, and Dr. Bill getting stuck on the tarmac for 2+ hours). Everyone clicked quickly and began work well as a team.

The next day (Day one) of clinic was successful. We saw 52 children.

The first stage was the visual acuity, where the children were tested on the eye chart, as well as depth perception and color blindness.

The next stage the children completed was the tonometer, which puffed air into the eye to test for glaucoma.

Once the children are finished with the tenometer, they move on to the auto refractor, where the machine reads the prescription of the eye.

Next, the child sees the doctor for the comprehensive eye exam. The doctor uses the information collected up to this point as a point of reference during the exam.

After the child has visited the doctor, he or she moves on to frame selection, where the child picks out the frames that fit him or her and they that they like the most.

This young man just completed his frame selection and is showing off his new look.

Stay tuned as we continue to update our progress throughout the week.
